This mural is being created on MDO exterior plywood and will be installed upon completion on an exterior wall adjacent
to a small exterior swimming pool. The 'wall' currently towers over the pool, the mural will create an instant view
for the pool area as well as continue the Ship's Inn theme of the popular resort!
The finished mural size is 20' H X 16' W - it is painted with 100% exteror acrylic paint on 10 sheets of 4 X 8 MDO plywood.
The client requested a nautical scene that incorporated a sailing ship.
A canvas painting was first presented to the client to approve the mural subject and content.

Its finally all on the wall. I might add a couple details in the near future, but basically it's done!
Scroll down to see the day to day creation of the panels!
Day 1 & 2
2 coats of primer and caulk and seal all edges on all 10 sheets of plywood. First layer of basic color rolled on,
to build up a strong paint base.
Day 3
The sky transition of color and clouds are sprayed on to 8 panels.
Day 4
Basic blocks of color are developed, including the horizon.
Day 5
Basic shapes are layed out and the engineering of the design fit from panel to panel is a full day's work!
Day 6
Each panel is developed with details of the painting.
Day 7
Details, details, details......... The whole mural develops, like a polaroid picture.
Day 8
...and now for the rigging. Laying the panels on its side , I am able to insure the continuity of the lines from
panel to panel!

Day 8
Today I worked on the bottom of the mural - the goal is to create an illusion that the viewer could walk on to the dock!
The mural will hang less than 6 feet from the edge of a small swimming pool, so I hope to create an illusion of more
elbo room for the pool guests! Just started to lay in layers of colors for a worn dock look. Obviously, have a
long way to go.... LOL

Day 9
Ahhhh, the pleasure of painting straight lines! Layed out 4 of the canvases in an effort to add more realistic
rigging to at tleast the lower half of the ship - I guess I will have to wait til the mural is installed to continue the rigging
'up' the mural to the top four panels. At least when the panels are installed on the wall , I will have the opportunity
to see if my planning and engineering of the individual panels and the continuity between them... actually worked!

Day 10 - August 28 - Installation Day!
We got a bit of a late start today, but the weather is with us!
The scaffolding went up and the pressure treated rails were then lagged into the building. Slowly the panels came
together for their first time!!!!

|
| At the end of the day - 1 day to go! |
At the end of the day, we decided we need more scaffolding to safely install the top two panels! Tomorrow we'll
build a deck on the top and go for the high stuff! I've also realized there will be significant touch-up and repair
of installation 'damage'. Also have a little work to do with continuity from panel to panel. Its minor, but its
important to me!
Day 11 - August 30 - Installation Day (2)!
The mural is all there! Yay! Finishing details tomorrow and we'll get to see it without the scaffolding!
